What's on the Post Holiday Menu?
Here are some great choices to help you beat the post holiday bloat, and help you fit into your New Year's Eve attire:
1. Water- so ...duh... I know this one seems really obvious, and yet we still don't do it. Go for 1 to 1.5 gallons a day, depending on body weight, I know it seems like a lot but it will keep everything moving in the right direction. Try some alkaline water for a bit of an extra "healing" effect. Check out #KangenWater. My good pal Rick will help sort you out.
2. Antioxidant veggies and fruits: Top of the list is spinach. With a power punch of ALA (Alpha Lipoic Acid and polyphenols, which protect your cells), broccoli, kale and also tomatoes. These veggies are super high in vitamin C, which, amongst other things, is an awesome antioxidant, also in vitamins A and B complex for energy and vitality. Some fruits on this list: Berries. MMM, I rarely suggest other fruits for reducing inflammation, as most are quite high in sugar, but berries are super low (lower than some veggies!).
3. Take a multi-vitamin. I am not a huge supplement toter, however, a multi-vitamin helps balance all your daily nutrients. And some of the better ones have compounds which are gender specific to help balance hormone function (my choice is the Goddess M Factor by 1rst Phorm).
4. Omegas and EFAs. Try a tablespoon (ONE TABLESPOON), of olive oil over cooked veggies, reduce coconut oil and drizzle over oats in the morning, or if your wallet and time will allow try macadamia nut or avocado oils. These oils will convert energy a little faster, and are excellent emulsifiers for smooth shiny skin, eyes and hair. They also promote movement in your organs to help you ... ehem... get rid of stuff which maybe hanging around after this afteroon's meal.
5. SLEEP. So, when we sleep, we regenerate cells, and that means we get rid of a lot the bad stuff. Sleep helps to rejuvenate and recharge muscle function, as well as eradicating the over production of cortisol (in case the holidays stress you out a bit), and keep adrenaline at bay (again a super charge hormone which can have a negative effect on stress levels in the body and cause blood sugar to do weird stuff).
Ok... there ya have it! Now have a great day, get some cardio, and relax! Oh and by the way that glass of red wine, or scotch on the rocks, has a little bitty bit of cortisol reducing power too ... shhhh... it does... really. So if the holidays are kinda "stress inducing" try ONE, it actually has a positive effect in such cases. Please drink responsibly and understand that more than ONE, could be too much and have a negative effect on bloating.
